NRM Eastern Region Vice Chairperson, Mr. Echodu Calvin, recently hosted a unity meeting in Mt. Elgon, bringing together NRM aspirants, winners, and even those who did not succeed in the primaries from across Bugisu Sub-region. The main purpose of the gathering was to rally support for President Museveni and provide a platform for leaders to discuss the pressing issues affecting their communities.
At the meeting, Hon. Biara Emmanuel Wepukhulu, the NRM flag bearer for Bulambuli County, addressed the key challenges facing Bugisu. He emphasized the ongoing problem of cattle raiding, which continues to threaten livelihoods and security. He also called attention to the unequal treatment of Bugisu compared to other regions, such as Teso, and urged for proper compensation and support for affected families.
Education and regional development were also major points in Hon. Biara’s address. He advocated for the establishment of a public university in Bugisu to create more opportunities for higher education. Additionally, he called for a ministerial position for the sub-region to ensure greater government focus and resource allocation to Bugisu.
Hon. Biara further highlighted the dangers posed by natural disasters, including mudslides and landslides, urging the government to implement mitigation measures to protect communities and property during heavy rains.
Mr. Echodu Calvin attentively listened to Hon. Biara’s concerns and promised to help organize a meeting between Bugisu leaders and President Museveni. This assurance was welcomed by attendees, giving hope that these critical issues would be addressed at the highest level.
The unity meeting in Mt. Elgon demonstrated the NRM spirit, bringing together aspirants, winners, and non-winners alike to discuss development and solidarity. Hon. Biara’s articulate presentation of Bugisu’s challenges showcased his leadership and commitment to the people of the sub-region.
With Hon. Biara raising these important concerns, the people of Bugisu remain hopeful for meaningful action. From addressing cattle raids to promoting education and disaster preparedness, his voice continues to serve as a beacon for the development and protection of the entire sub-region.
