Eng. Grania Rosette Rubomboras has been appointed as the new Chairperson of the Electricity Regulatory Authority (ERA) Board of Directors, taking the lead in steering Uganda’s electricity sector toward sustainability, reliability, and affordability.
The appointment, made under the Electricity Act, Cap 157, was formally celebrated at a swearing-in ceremony held at New ERA House in Kampala, presided over by the Minister of Energy and Mineral Development, Hon. Ruth Nankabirwa Ssentamu.
Eng. Rubomboras brings over 30 years of experience in Uganda’s power sector, including roles at the Uganda Electricity Board (UEB) and the Rural Electrification Agency (REA). Her extensive technical expertise and leadership are expected to strengthen ERA’s regulatory mandate as Uganda accelerates its transition to cleaner and more reliable energy systems.
ERA also welcomed Ms. Rebecca Kisolo, an advocate of the Courts of Judicature in Uganda and legal consultant, as a new Board member. Ms. Kisolo brings experience from the banking and service sectors, enhancing the Authority’s governance and compliance capacity.
In a congratulatory message, the Uganda Electricity Generation Company Limited (UEGCL) praised the new Board, emphasizing the importance of leadership continuity and collaboration within Uganda’s energy value chain.
“Congratulations to the newly appointed ERA Board. Your leadership comes at a crucial time for Uganda’s energy transition. UEGCL looks forward to continued collaboration to achieve a robust and sustainable energy sector,” the statement read.
The new ERA Board is expected to guide strategic and regulatory priorities, including improving power reliability, promoting investment in renewable energy, and ensuring affordable electricity access for all Ugandans. ERA continues to play a central role in regulating Uganda’s electricity supply industry, licensing sector players, setting tariffs, and enhancing efficiency across generation, transmission, and distribution.
