Traffic along the Iganga–Luuka Road has been disrupted after a section of the Namadope Bridge collapsed following heavy rains. The downpour is reported to have weakened the old culverts beneath the bridge, causing structural failure and cutting off one of the region’s main transport routes.
Allan Ssempebwa, a spokesperson for the Ministry of Works and Transport, confirmed on Monday, October 27, 2025, that the road had recently been handed over to Arab Contractors for upgrading. He said the company has been directed to immediately begin emergency restoration to reopen the route while full-scale road works continue.
> “We have notified Arab Contractors and asked them to intervene urgently so that traffic can resume as the main upgrading project progresses,” Ssempebwa stated.
In the meantime, all vehicles have been diverted through Namakakale and Waibuga villages, a longer detour passing through Luuka and Mayuge districts. Authorities have advised motorists to exercise caution and noted that the diversion, though inconvenient and costly, is a temporary measure until the bridge is repaired and normal traffic flow is restored.
