A tense and frightening scene unfolded at Kanyanya Court in Kampala on Tuesday when National Unity Platform (NUP) member Sauda Madada suddenly fell critically ill. The situation shocked everyone present, including court officials, NUP leaders, and fellow suspects who had come for their case mention.
Madada, often known for her close ties to Bobi Wine’s movement, reportedly arrived at court already looking weak and unstable. She was supported by female prison warders, and many noticed she had a cannula inserted in her arm, a sign that she had been receiving medical treatment earlier.

Shortly after arriving, her condition got worse. Reports indicate that she started vomiting blood while inside the court cell. This alarming development sent waves of panic around the court, forcing immediate action from authorities.
Grade One Magistrate Damalie Agumasiimwe was informed about the emergency and rushed down to the holding cells. She was accompanied by NUP lawyers and senior party leaders, including the Leader of Opposition in Parliament. Their faces showed deep concern as they hurried to check on Madada.
Inside the cell, the group found Madada in a dire state, vomiting blood and struggling to remain stable. The scene was distressing, and it became clear that she could not remain in custody in that condition. Without hesitation, the magistrate ordered that she be taken straight to Mulago National Referral Hospital for urgent medical attention.
Prison officers, NUP leaders, and medical personnel coordinated quickly to move her out of the cell. She was transported to Mulago, where doctors were expected to assess and treat her condition. Her supporters hoped she would receive the care she desperately needed.

Madada had been brought to court along with other NUP members, including Eddy Mutwe, Alex Waiswa Mufumbiro, Achileo Kivumbi, and Olivia Lutaaya. The group was appearing for the mention of a case in which they are accused of carrying out unauthorized military-style drills at a gathering earlier this year on 12 February 2025.
The sudden health scare overshadowed the court session, drawing sympathy and worry from many who witnessed the incident. For NUP members and supporters, it was a heartbreaking moment, especially given her reputation as one of the most active and loyal figures in the movement.
The cause of Madada’s deteriorating condition remains unclear, but many are hoping that Mulago doctors will stabilize her and provide answers. Her supporters took to social media to express their concern and call for prayers.
As the day ended, the focus was no longer on the legal proceedings but on Madada’s critical health. Many Ugandans continue to wait anxiously for updates on her condition, hoping she will recover from the frightening ordeal.
