Hon. Biara Emmanuel Wepukhulu has once again demonstrated his commitment to transforming lives through education after visiting ten orphaned pupils under the Biara Foundation Scholarship Program at Yoweri Museveni Primary School in Namatala, Mbale District. The children, all survivors of the devastating Bulambuli landslides that claimed their parents, are among the beneficiaries whose education has been made possible through the foundation’s sponsorship initiative.
The visit provided an opportunity for Hon. Wepukhulu to interact directly with the learners, assess their welfare, and receive updates on their academic progress. Despite the painful experiences they have endured, the pupils were described by teachers as determined, hardworking, and focused on building brighter futures through education.
During discussions with the school administration, the headteacher commended the Biara Foundation for ensuring that the children remain in school. However, he pointed out several challenges still affecting the beneficiaries, including the lack of school uniforms, scholastic materials, and consistent access to meals, all of which continue to hinder their learning experience.
School officials explained that while tuition support has significantly eased the burden on the children, many still face daily struggles that threaten to undermine their academic performance. They appealed for additional assistance to ensure that the learners can study in a more supportive and dignified environment.
Moved by the concerns raised, Hon. Wepukhulu pledged to strengthen the support offered through the Biara Foundation. He noted that the scholarship program initially focused on meeting tuition requirements due to limited resources but emphasized that plans are now underway to expand assistance and address the children’s broader educational needs.
The legislator reaffirmed his belief that education remains the most effective pathway out of poverty and hardship. He stressed that vulnerable children, particularly those affected by natural disasters and family tragedies, deserve every opportunity to pursue their dreams and achieve their full potential.
The pupils expressed gratitude for the visit, describing it as a source of encouragement and motivation. Teachers echoed the same sentiments, praising the foundation for giving hope to children who might otherwise have been forced to abandon their education due to financial difficulties.
As the visit concluded, prayers and words of appreciation filled the school compound as staff and learners thanked Hon. Wepukhulu for standing with them during difficult times. For the young survivors from Bulambuli, the visit was more than a routine engagement—it was a powerful reminder that their future matters and that they have leaders committed to helping them succeed against all odds.
