Celebrations reportedly erupted at Luzira Prison after former Kampala Lord Mayor and People’s Front for Freedom (PFF) president Erias Lukwago supported fellow inmates by providing a large television set and a water tank for the prison community.
According to reports, Lukwago directed his wife, Nalongo Zawedde Lubwama, to deliver a 60-inch television set after noticing that the existing television in the ward where he stays with other inmates was too small for comfortable viewing.
The television was delivered to Murchison Bay Prison, where prisoners’ leaders received it and helped install it on the wall of the prison hospital.
As the television was being mounted, inmates reportedly gathered around and celebrated the gesture, praising Lukwago and praying for his protection during his time in custody.
The prisoners expressed appreciation, saying the new television would improve their daily experience since many inmates spend part of their free time watching news programmes, football matches and entertainment shows.
Reports indicate that the gesture was not only limited to the prison hospital ward, as Lukwago also extended support to the Muslim community at Murchison Bay Prison.

The Muslim inmates reportedly received a 10,000-litre water tank, a move they said addressed one of the challenges they had been facing.
One Muslim prisoner thanked Lukwago for responding quickly after their concerns were raised, saying access to water was especially important for their religious activities and daily needs.
The inmates reportedly prayed for Lukwago, asking God to protect him and guide him through the challenges he is currently facing.
Sources say Lukwago has remained committed to prayer while in prison and regularly joins other inmates for daily prayers and Friday Juma prayers.
Whenever he gets an opportunity to speak to fellow prisoners, Lukwago reportedly encourages them to remain hopeful and pray for Uganda.
He has also reportedly told inmates that the country needs God’s intervention because of the challenges affecting its leadership and citizens.
Since his arrival at Murchison Bay Prison, reports indicate that Lukwago’s presence has contributed to several improvements, especially within the Muslim worship area and hospital section.
The former Kampala Lord Mayor is among several high-profile Ugandans who have spent time at Murchison Bay Prison, joining other prominent figures who have previously left memories among inmates.

Lukwago is currently facing accusations related to allegations that he failed to report information about an alleged plot involving opposition figures Dr Kizza Besigye and Obed Lutale.
The charges against him have attracted public attention, with his supporters describing the case as politically motivated while authorities maintain that legal procedures are being followed.
Despite being behind bars, Lukwago has continued to interact with fellow inmates and participate in activities aimed at improving their welfare.
His supporters say the donations demonstrate his concern for the welfare of other prisoners regardless of their circumstances.
The television and water tank donations have sparked discussions among Ugandans, with some praising the former Lord Mayor for remembering fellow inmates during his detention.
The developments at Murchison Bay Prison continue to attract attention as Lukwago’s legal case progresses while he remains in custody.
