The son of veteran opposition leader Dr. Kizza Besigye, Adam Ampa Besigye, has appealed to President Yoweri Museveni and Chief of Defence Forces Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, insisting that his father is innocent of the allegations facing him.
In an emotional message, Adam said his family strongly believes that the accusations against his father are false and that Dr. Besigye has never intended to harm President Museveni or his family.
“My family firmly believes he is innocent of the allegations against him and has never sought to harm you or your family,” Adam said.
The appeal came after Dr. Besigye reportedly collapsed during court proceedings, an incident that left his family, supporters and many Ugandans concerned about his health condition.
Adam said watching his father collapse in court was one of the most painful moments of his life and urged leaders to consider the human side of the situation beyond political differences.
He explained that he was writing as a son who was worried about the wellbeing of his father and not as a political actor seeking confrontation.

According to Adam, his father has spent many years serving Uganda and should be treated with compassion despite disagreements over politics.
He appealed to President Museveni and Gen. Muhoozi to look at the situation with mercy and consider the circumstances surrounding his father’s continued detention.
Adam said that no family should have to watch their loved one suffer while facing serious legal battles and health challenges.
He emphasized that his father’s political disagreements with the government should not be interpreted as a desire to cause harm to anyone.
Dr. Besigye, who has been one of Uganda’s leading opposition figures for decades, is facing charges related to allegations of involvement in a plot to overthrow the government.
However, his family and supporters have consistently denied the accusations, saying they are politically motivated and without basis.
Adam maintained that his father has always believed in fighting for change through political engagement and has never sought violence against the President or any other Ugandan.
He said the family’s biggest concern at the moment is the declining health of Dr. Besigye and ensuring that he receives proper medical attention.
The young Besigye also called for justice and fairness, saying that Uganda should demonstrate that the rule of law can exist alongside compassion and humanity.

He warned that political conflicts should not divide Ugandans to the extent that families lose hope in peaceful solutions.
The appeal has attracted attention from different sections of society, with many people discussing the health condition and legal situation of the opposition leader.
Supporters of Dr. Besigye have continued to demand that authorities consider his age, health and long service to the country.
Meanwhile, authorities have maintained that legal processes must continue as the case proceeds through the courts.
The situation has once again brought national attention to the relationship between political rivalry, justice and reconciliation in Uganda.
As the legal proceedings continue, Adam’s message remains a call for understanding, mercy and consideration for his father’s condition.
