AIGP Charles Kataratambi, a senior officer in the Uganda Police Force, has passed away after a long struggle with diabetes. He died at Nakasero Hospital, where he had been receiving specialized care following months of battling the illness.
Kataratambi’s health reportedly worsened after his appointment as Director of Human Rights and Legal Services at Police Headquarters in Naguru by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni. In this key role, he oversaw sensitive human rights and legal issues within the force.
Earlier, he had been flown to Germany for specialized medical treatment. Despite advanced care abroad, he returned to Uganda to continue his recovery at home. Sadly, his condition continued to decline, leaving family, colleagues, and the public mourning his loss.
His remarkable career in the Uganda Police Force spanned nearly three decades. Rising steadily through the ranks, Kataratambi became Assistant Inspector General of Police, earning a reputation as a disciplined and respected leader.
Earlier in his career, he led the Police Land Protection Unit, where he gained national recognition for heading operations against illegal land evictions and fraud.
Despite his achievements, some of the operations he led drew public criticism, sparking debates over police conduct and accountability.
His transfer to the Directorate of Human Rights and Legal Services was seen as both a promotion and a strategic shift. The role allowed him to continue serving while reducing exposure to the intense scrutiny associated with the Land Protection Unit.
Colleagues remember Kataratambi as a dedicated officer whose leadership combined firmness with fairness. He was known for mentoring young officers and guiding them through the complexities of police work.
Kataratambi’s passing is a significant loss for the Uganda Police Force and the wider community. He is remembered not only for his professional accomplishments but also for his integrity and devotion to public service. Tributes continue to pour in from colleagues, friends, and members of the public.
Funeral arrangements are expected to be announced soon by the Uganda Police Force. The nation mourns a leader whose life embodied service, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to justice. AIGP Charles Kataratambi leaves behind a legacy that will be remembered for generations.
