Dr Asiimwe welcomed the President’s commitment to supporting the UMA SACCO, thanking him for giving medical interns an opportunity to present their concerns directly to the Head of State.
He revealed that the Shs1 billion Museveni extended to the UMA SACCO in 2017 had grown to Shs13 billion, demonstrating the potential of the initiative to improve access to financial services for health workers.
The UMA president also highlighted the importance of partnerships between the government and private healthcare providers in medical training, deployment, promotion, accountability, monitoring, quality control and information sharing.
He noted that many Ugandans depend on private health facilities for treatment and urged the government to recognise doctors working in both public and private institutions.
Asiimwe added that UMA was working with the Ministry of Health to strengthen professional accountability and address absenteeism among health workers.
