Local Government Minister Balaam Barugahara Ateenyi has called for a crucial meeting with political and technical leaders from the Busoga sub-region as government intensifies efforts to address challenges affecting service delivery and local government performance.
The high-level engagement is set to take place on Thursday, July 10, 2026, at the Civil Service College Uganda in Jinja, bringing together key local government officials to evaluate governance issues and find solutions to persistent operational challenges.
Those summoned include district chairpersons, city mayors, chief administrative officers, city clerks, and leaders of district service commissions from across the Greater Busoga region. The meeting will bring together representatives from Jinja City, Jinja District, Kamuli, Iganga, Bugiri, Bugweri, Namayingo, Mayuge, Namutumba, Kaliro, Luuka and Buyende.
In a letter dated July 7, 2026, Minister Balaam instructed the leaders to attend the meeting without fail, noting that discussions would focus on improving the effectiveness of local governments and tackling obstacles affecting service delivery to citizens.
The minister’s move follows earlier communication from the Ministry of Public Service dated July 3, 2026, which highlighted the need for closer coordination between political leaders and technical officers to improve performance within local government structures.
According to the Ministry of Local Government, the meeting is part of government’s broader strategy to strengthen accountability, improve human resource management and ensure that local authorities deliver better services to communities.
The engagement will also provide a platform for leaders to share challenges affecting their respective areas and develop practical measures aimed at improving efficiency, reducing service delivery gaps and enhancing the welfare of citizens.
As government continues to push for better performance across local governments, the Busoga meeting is expected to set the pace for renewed accountability and stronger coordination between elected leaders and civil servants in the region.
