Uganda’s music industry has been buzzing with tension lately, especially between two of its biggest stars—Eddy Kenzo and Bebe Cool. The two artists, who have both been rallying support for President Yoweri Museveni during his campaigns, have reportedly clashed several times on the campaign trail. According to Kenzo, their ongoing misunderstandings are driven by deeper personal issues, namely ego and jealousy.
In a candid interview with the media over the weekend in Bugisu subregion, Kenzo explained the root of their frequent clashes. The Big Talent boss revealed that Bebe Cool’s ego has always been a point of contention between them. He believes that Bebe Cool has struggled to accept Kenzo’s leadership role in the Ugandan music scene, which has contributed to the tension.
Kenzo didn’t mince words when talking about the source of the problem. “Emotions have always got the better of him—ego. It’s the reason I always clash with Bebe Cool. He doesn’t want to accept that a young man like me can be their leader,” Kenzo said. His statement highlights a sense of rivalry and frustration, with Kenzo implying that Bebe Cool feels threatened by his rising status and influence in the industry.

The Grammy-nominated artist further explained that Bebe Cool’s failure to acknowledge his leadership position is at the heart of their conflicts. Kenzo made it clear that he is not afraid to challenge anyone who stands in the way of his mission to elevate Ugandan music and its artists. “I don’t let him do as he wishes because I work to satisfy many, not a few,” he added, emphasizing that his leadership is about representing the collective interests of all artists, not just a select few.
Despite their frequent clashes, Kenzo made it clear that he still respects Bebe Cool. “I give him respect, but they don’t accept that,” Kenzo said, indicating that even though the two have their differences, he holds no ill will towards the veteran musician. However, Kenzo is focused on his role as president of Uganda’s musicians, and he doesn’t let personal issues distract him from his responsibilities.
As the leader of the Big Talent label, Kenzo has made it clear that his focus is on the greater good of the Ugandan music industry. He sees his leadership as a responsibility to ensure that the voices of all artists are heard and their needs are met. This sense of duty, according to Kenzo, is what sets him apart from other industry figures who may be driven by personal ego.
Kenzo’s rise in the music industry has not come without its challenges, but he has steadily positioned himself as a force to be reckoned with. As a leading figure in the entertainment scene, he is aware of the weight of his leadership role and the expectations that come with it. For Kenzo, it’s not just about being a successful artist; it’s about uplifting others in the industry and pushing for collective growth.
Bebe Cool, on the other hand, has been one of Uganda’s most prominent musicians for years. He has a long-standing influence in the music scene and has often positioned himself as a mentor to younger artists. However, the clash between Bebe Cool and Kenzo suggests a deeper issue of generational differences and the evolving power dynamics in the industry.

While Kenzo has taken the role of president of musicians in Uganda, Bebe Cool may feel that his own legacy and status are being overshadowed by the younger generation’s rise. This power struggle is not uncommon in many industries, and in the case of Uganda’s music scene, it seems to have created a rift between two of its most influential figures.
Despite their differences, both Kenzo and Bebe Cool share a commitment to Uganda’s music industry and its growth. However, it remains to be seen whether their personal clashes will be resolved or continue to simmer beneath the surface. For now, Kenzo is staying focused on his leadership role, determined to push forward and continue representing the interests of all musicians in Uganda.
