Florence Nantumbwe, a 111-year-old widow from Wanjeyo Village, Kimenyedde Sub-County, Mukono District, is caught in a bitter conflict over land ownership with Emmanuel Mubiru. Mubiru claims he purchased 6.5 acres from Nantumbwe’s son, Solomon Mbogo, but Nantumbwe insists the sale was conducted without her knowledge or approval. She maintains that the land originally belonged to her late husband, Jonathan Bwogere, and vows not to leave until she receives her rightful share as a widow.
“My husband left me on this land, and even my two sons have abandoned me. I have struggled for years to survive on my own. I want what is rightfully mine,” Nantumbwe said. She recounted that her home has been attacked multiple times, with unknown individuals vandalizing her property and destroying her crops.
“Last night, intruders came at midnight and threatened me and my grandchildren. They set fire to household items including beddings and clothes and destroyed our crops. They warned that I would die if I refused to leave,” she tearfully revealed.
Despite her repeated complaints, Nantumbwe expressed frustration with local law enforcement, accusing Nagalama Police of inaction. “I have reported these attacks several times, but nothing has been done. I fear for my life,” she lamented.
Local leaders have condemned the attacks. George William Sembatya, LC1 Chairperson of Wanjeyo Village, questioned Mubiru’s claim to the land, stating, “There is no record of Mubiru as a landowner in my office. The Bwogere family has never introduced him as a buyer.” Sembatya added that Mubiru has repeatedly refused to appear before local authorities to clarify the matter and continues to harass the elderly widow.
Nantumbwe’s grandson, Lubowa Yoson, accused Mubiru of orchestrating the attacks, noting that their family has been left with nothing after their property was destroyed. “Everything is gone—our food, our belongings. We don’t even have what to eat,” Yoson said, appealing to the community for help.
Residents of Wanjeyo Village, together with local leaders, have called for urgent police intervention to protect Nantumbwe and ensure justice is served. They are demanding the arrest of those responsible for the attacks and the safeguarding of her life and property.
