In a surprising turn of events, media personality Frank Gashumba has publicly praised Bobi Wine’s campaign efforts ahead of Uganda’s 2026 elections. Known for his outspoken criticism of the National Unity Platform (NUP) president, Gashumba admitted during a Radio 4 interview that the level of discipline and control displayed by Bobi Wine and his supporters has left a strong impression on him.
Gashumba recounted observing Bobi Wine’s convoy in Masaka, noting the remarkable orderliness and absence of chaos. Unlike many campaigns where supporters often disrupt public spaces, the NUP team moved respectfully, showing consideration for the community and road users. “I have really been impressed with Kyagulanyi’s campaign this election season. There was no ruckus, and his supporters were well-managed,” he remarked.
This acknowledgment is striking because Gashumba has historically been one of Bobi Wine’s harshest critics. He has previously attacked the NUP leader across social and political platforms, making this shift in tone a significant development in Uganda’s political conversation.
He credited Bobi Wine’s leadership for the visible restraint among supporters, highlighting that managing large crowds peacefully is no small feat. According to Gashumba, the candidate’s approach reflects maturity and readiness for national leadership, as it demonstrates the ability to inspire loyalty without resorting to intimidation or disorder.
Gashumba emphasized that the orderly nature of NUP rallies benefits both the electorate and the communities visited. Roads remain accessible, public spaces are respected, and campaign activities unfold without incident, providing a stark contrast to the chaotic image often associated with political events in Uganda.
The media personality also noted that a disciplined campaign reinforces Bobi Wine’s broader political message. By projecting control and respect, the NUP leader is sending a signal that his administration, if elected, would prioritize accountability, peace, and responsible governance.
He further suggested that Bobi Wine’s campaign sets a new benchmark for political engagement in the country. The combination of organization, calmness, and respect for the public sphere challenges other candidates to raise their standards and demonstrates that elections can proceed without fear or unrest.
Concluding his remarks, Gashumba encouraged the NUP president to maintain this momentum, stressing that consistent discipline will be key as the election approaches. His praise highlights that effective leadership is visible not only in speeches or policies but also in the way supporters are managed, offering a rare moment of cross-partisan recognition in Ugandan politics.
