President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has appointed Hon. Canon Mathew Rukikaire as the new Chancellor of Kabale University.
The appointment was formalized through an Instrument of Appointment dated October 17, 2025, issued under Section 30(1) of the Universities and Other Tertiary Institutions Act. This decision follows a recommendation from the Kabale University Council.
Canon Rukikaire will serve a four-year term, beginning from the date he officially assumes office. The appointment instrument reads:
> “I, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, do hereby appoint Hon. Canon Mathew Rukikaire as Chancellor of Kabale University for a period of four years, with effect from the date of assumption of duty.”
As Chancellor, Canon Rukikaire takes over from his predecessor with the responsibility of offering visionary leadership and promoting academic excellence, research, and community engagement at the institution.
In his new role, he will preside over all major university functions—including graduation ceremonies—and serve as the ceremonial head, representing Kabale University at both national and international platforms.
