St. Mary’s College Mayenze is one of the leading secondary schools in Uganda. The school continues to show strong commitment to quality education and the full development of students. Besides the recently introduced bursary scheme, the school has put in place many other programs that support students academically, spiritually, and personally. These initiatives ensure that every learner gets a fair chance to succeed.
The School Bursary Program
The bursary program is one of the key ways the school supports bright but needy students. The school offers a 50% reduction in school fees to learners with excellent academic performance or outstanding sports talent. To qualify, a student must score an aggregate between 4 and 14 in the Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE). This program helps talented students access good secondary education regardless of their financial background.
Support for Parents Through Early Fee Payment
St. Mary’s College Mayenze also supports parents and guardians through an early fee payment incentive. Parents who pay school fees within the first two weeks of the term are exempted from paying 2% of the total fees. This encourages early payment and helps parents reduce costs while ensuring smooth school operations.
Practical Learning Through Study Tours
Starting from the 2026 academic year, the school will conduct regular study tours to improve practical learning. Geography students will take part in fieldwork to gain real-life experience. Students studying History and Political Education will visit the Parliament of Uganda. The school has a yearly program of taking students to Parliament, although this is facilitated by parents. This program helps students understand how the government works and builds their interest in national affairs.
Rewarding Academic Excellence
The school strongly promotes academic excellence. Students who score seven or more A’s in their exams receive a reward of UGX 50,000 or are exempted from paying part of their school fees. This motivates learners to work hard and compete positively in their studies.
Support for Bereaved Students
St. Mary’s College Mayenze also supports students during difficult times. If a student loses a parent while studying at the school, they receive a fee exemption. The school waives 50% of fees if the father passes away and 25% if the mother passes away. This support helps families cope with financial challenges during moments of loss.
Spiritual Growth and Moral Development
The school values spiritual growth as much as academic success. Students take part in daily lunch-hour prayers, rosary sessions, and Scripture Union activities, all funded by the school. Holy Mass is held three times each term, and students are encouraged to pray before examinations. These activities help build discipline, faith, and good morals among students.
Nutrition and Student Welfare
The school ensures that students are well-fed, especially those in boarding. Breakfast and lunch are provided to all students, knowing that some may face food challenges at home. Boarding students receive balanced meals. Rice and chicken are served every Sunday, while potatoes, matooke, and cassava are provided to supplement first-class posho. Even students who go home for medical reasons return to school to continue benefiting from school meals.
Preparing Students for National Exams
To improve performance in national examinations, the school invites examiners to guide and motivate candidates. This helps students gain confidence and prepares them well for UCE and UACE examinations. As a result, the school continues to produce strong academic results.
