In an unexpected show of support, Mr. Aligi Johnson, director of Akalo Comprehensive Secondary School in Kole District, has pledged UGX 10 million toward President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s 2026 re-election bid. The donation, handed over publicly to senior presidential advisor Hon. Sam Engola, left many in the community surprised.
Mr. Johnson described the contribution as a gesture of gratitude for Museveni’s “peaceful and visionary leadership” over the past four decades.
> “I wanted to show my support for the president, who has led this country for 40 years. This is my way of appreciating his commitment to peace and development,” Johnson said during the handover.
Hon. Sam Engola praised Johnson’s generosity and assured that the funds would be delivered safely to the president. He noted that such contributions highlight the broad support for Museveni’s upcoming campaign.
The donation quickly sparked discussions on social media, with reactions ranging from admiration to criticism. Analysts observed that while individual contributions to political campaigns are not unusual, the size and visibility of this donation—especially from someone outside mainstream politics—are notable.
Residents of Kole District largely praised Johnson for taking a personal stand, with some suggesting his example could inspire others to participate in political processes, either financially or through active involvement. Critics, however, argued that public school leaders should avoid political endorsements, while supporters maintain that Johnson’s actions reflect personal choice rather than obligation.
As the 2026 elections approach, contributions like Johnson’s are likely to draw increased attention, illustrating how individuals from various walks of life are engaging in Uganda’s political landscape.
