National Unity Platform (NUP) president Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, popularly known as Bobi Wine, has announced changes in the party’s leadership by appointing Hon. John Baptist Nambeshe as the acting president of the party.
The announcement comes after Bobi Wine revealed that he will not be returning to Uganda in the immediate future, leading to another extension of the party’s acting leadership arrangement.
In a statement shared on his official social media platforms, Bobi Wine praised the work of Dr. Lina Zedriga Waru, who has been serving as the acting president of the National Unity Platform during his time away from the country.
According to Bobi Wine, Dr. Zedriga successfully guided the party during her tenure and played an important role in ensuring that its activities continued smoothly despite his absence.
He thanked her for her commitment and dedication, saying she had helped keep the party united and focused on its objectives throughout the period she served in the acting position.
“As her tenure comes to an end, I am pleased to announce that Hon. John Baptist Nambeshe, Deputy President Eastern Region, will be taking over as acting President of the National Unity Platform,” Bobi Wine stated.

He also wished Nambeshe success in the new role and called upon all party leaders, supporters and members to give him the cooperation and support needed to effectively carry out his responsibilities.
Hon. John Baptist Nambeshe is one of the senior leaders within NUP and currently serves as the party’s Deputy President for the Eastern Region.
His appointment means he will temporarily oversee the day-to-day leadership of the party until Bobi Wine returns to resume his duties as president.
The latest development has attracted widespread attention among supporters and political observers, with many discussing what the leadership transition could mean for the party in the coming months.
Although Bobi Wine did not specify the exact date of his return to Uganda, he indicated that the acting arrangement would remain in place for approximately four months.
His continued stay outside the country has generated discussion within political circles, with supporters expressing confidence that party activities will continue uninterrupted under the new acting leadership.
NUP remains one of Uganda’s leading opposition political parties and continues to play a significant role in national political debates and mobilization activities.

Party officials have repeatedly emphasized that the organization has established leadership structures capable of ensuring continuity whenever the party president is away.
Political analysts say such temporary appointments are intended to maintain stability and ensure that important administrative and political decisions continue to be handled without interruption.
Supporters have since congratulated Hon. Nambeshe on his appointment while thanking Dr. Lina Zedriga for her service during the period she acted as party president.
The transition reflects the party’s efforts to maintain continuity in leadership while its president continues his engagements outside Uganda.
Observers are expected to closely monitor how the acting leadership manages party affairs during the coming months, especially as Uganda’s political environment remains active.
For now, Hon. John Baptist Nambeshe officially assumes the responsibilities of acting president of the National Unity Platform, with Bobi Wine urging all members to rally behind him until his eventual return to Uganda.
