Housing Finance Uganda has announced an Shs80 million contribution towards the 8th NSSF Kampala Hills Run, reinforcing efforts to raise funds for renovating schools and providing children with safer and better learning environments.
The bank’s Managing Director, Michael Mugabi, announced the financial commitment during the launch of the annual event, where he joined NSSF officials and other partners in calling on Ugandans to support the initiative. He said improving school facilities is an important investment in children because a good classroom environment allows learners to study comfortably and focus on their education.
Mugabi observed that some children attend lessons in classrooms exposed to harsh weather conditions, including leaking roofs that make learning difficult whenever it rains. He explained that renovating these facilities would help protect pupils while creating an environment where they can learn, grow and pursue their ambitions without unnecessary interruptions.
He further noted that the benefits of improving schools extend beyond the classroom, as better education facilities give parents and entire communities renewed hope for the future. He encouraged Ugandans, businesses and other organisations to participate in the Kampala Hills Run, saying their involvement would help support meaningful projects that benefit future generations.
NSSF Managing Director Patrick Ayota called on schools selected to benefit from the initiative to mobilise Shs100 million each by March 31, 2027. He explained that NSSF and its partners would provide matching contributions to support the schools in achieving their fundraising targets and implementing improvements.
Ayota also used the occasion to encourage parents to embrace saving for their children’s future, revealing that families can begin with as little as Shs5,000 every month. He emphasised that developing a savings habit early can help parents gradually build financial resources to support their children’s education and other future responsibilities.
The 8th NSSF Kampala Hills Run is expected to attract participants from different parts of the country, including corporate organisations, institutions and individuals interested in supporting education. Beyond promoting physical fitness, the event provides a platform for mobilising financial resources and bringing communities together to address challenges affecting schools.
Housing Finance Uganda’s Shs80 million pledge adds to the growing support from partners working with NSSF to make the initiative successful. Organisers are encouraging more Ugandans to participate, noting that the campaign is not simply about completing a race but also about creating better schools, supporting children’s dreams and building a culture of saving for the future.
