Former Kira Municipality Member of Parliament Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda has officially entered the social media space after years of maintaining a noticeable absence from online platforms. His arrival on X, formerly known as Twitter, has generated significant attention among Ugandans, with thousands rushing to follow his newly created account within hours of its launch.
The veteran opposition politician announced his presence on the platform through a voice recording, seeking to eliminate any doubts about the authenticity of the account. In the recording, Ssemujju made it clear that the account was genuinely his and that he would personally use it to communicate with the public.
For many years, several accounts bearing Ssemujju’s name have operated across various social media platforms. Some of these accounts attracted substantial followings and often shared political commentary, leading many users to assume they belonged to the outspoken politician.
However, Ssemujju revealed that he had never operated any social media account before opening his official X page. According to him, the numerous accounts that existed in his name were created and managed by unknown individuals without his authorization.

The former legislator disclosed that he had previously appealed to some of the individuals behind those accounts to close them, but his requests were reportedly ignored. As a result, confusion continued regarding which accounts genuinely represented his views and positions.
In his introductory message, Ssemujju emphasized that the newly launched account would serve as his official channel of communication. He promised followers regular updates and information on matters he considers important to the public.
The announcement immediately attracted widespread interest from political supporters, journalists, commentators, and ordinary Ugandans. Within a short period, thousands of users had followed the account, eager to witness how one of Uganda’s most recognizable political figures would navigate the social media landscape.
His introductory video quickly gained traction, accumulating tens of thousands of views within hours. The rapid growth highlighted the level of public curiosity surrounding Ssemujju’s long-awaited entry into online discussions.
Many supporters welcomed the move, arguing that the politician’s voice had been missing from one of the country’s most active platforms for political engagement. Some described his arrival as overdue, considering his influence in national political debates.
Several users praised Ssemujju for his consistency and contributions to public discourse over the years. They expressed hope that his direct participation would enrich conversations on governance, accountability, and national development.

Others viewed the development as an opportunity for younger Ugandans to engage directly with a politician known for his detailed analysis of political issues. His parliamentary contributions earned him a reputation as one of the most vocal and articulate opposition figures in recent years.
Supporters from areas he previously represented also expressed excitement. Many posted welcoming messages and encouraged him to use the platform to remain connected with the people who have followed his political journey for decades.
Not all reactions, however, were positive. Some users questioned the timing of Ssemujju’s decision to join social media, noting that he chose to do so after losing his parliamentary seat during recent elections.
Critics argued that public engagement should not be limited to periods when politicians seek relevance or political influence. Some wondered why he had avoided social media throughout his years in Parliament only to embrace it after leaving office.
Others suggested that his entry into social media might be an attempt to maintain visibility in Uganda’s political landscape. They argued that social media has become an essential platform for shaping public opinion and influencing national conversations.
Despite the criticism, many observers noted that social media remains a powerful tool for politicians regardless of whether they currently hold public office. Numerous influential political figures around the world continue to shape debates through online engagement even when they are outside government.

Political analysts believe Ssemujju’s presence on X could significantly influence online political discussions. His experience, communication skills, and willingness to address controversial topics are likely to attract substantial attention from both supporters and critics.
The development also highlights the growing importance of social media in Uganda’s political environment. Increasingly, politicians, activists, journalists, and citizens rely on digital platforms to exchange ideas, challenge policies, and mobilize public opinion.
For Ssemujju, the move represents a major shift from his previous approach to communication. Having spent years relying on traditional media and public appearances, he now enters a fast-paced digital environment where information spreads almost instantly.
Whether his social media journey will strengthen his political influence or expose him to new challenges remains to be seen. What is certain, however, is that his arrival has already sparked conversation across Uganda, with supporters and critics alike eager to see how one of the country’s most prominent opposition voices adapts to life on the digital frontline.
