In Adjumani, the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) is taking a practical step toward improving tax compliance by meeting taxpayers where they are. Domestic Taxes and Customs teams are currently on the ground, directly engaging with VAT-registered businesses and users of the Electronic Fiscal Receipting and Invoicing System (EFRIS). This initiative reflects URA’s growing focus on building stronger relationships with taxpayers while supporting their important role in driving Uganda’s economy.
The sessions are designed to make tax compliance easier and less intimidating. Many business owners often struggle with understanding how to track their sales properly, file returns, or generate Payment Registration Numbers (PRNs). URA teams are breaking down these processes into simple, clear steps. By doing this, they are helping taxpayers gain confidence in managing their obligations without relying too heavily on intermediaries.
A key part of the engagement is hands-on support. Instead of just explaining concepts, URA officers are guiding participants through real examples using self-service tools like Electronic Fiscal Receipting and Invoicing System (EFRIS). This practical approach allows taxpayers to learn by doing, making it easier to understand how to issue receipts, track transactions, and stay compliant in real time.
Another important focus of the sessions is clearing up common misconceptions about taxes. Many people have misunderstandings about their responsibilities, penalties, and rights as taxpayers. URA is taking time to explain these areas clearly, ensuring that businesses not only comply but also understand the protections and benefits available to them under the law.
Beyond compliance, this initiative highlights URA’s broader goal of supporting economic growth. When businesses understand tax systems and use tools like EFRIS effectively, they can operate more efficiently and transparently. This builds trust, improves revenue collection, and ultimately contributes to national development.
Through these engagements in Adjumani, URA is sending a strong message: tax compliance does not have to be complicated. With the right guidance, tools, and support, every taxpayer can play their part in building a stronger economy.
