Ugandan singer and presidential advisor on ghetto affairs, Mark Bugembe, popularly known as Buchaman, has spoken out with deep frustration over what he calls broken promises from President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni. The artist says that despite serving faithfully as a mobilizer for the ruling government, he has been repeatedly denied the opportunity to meet the President in person to discuss matters that deeply concern him.
Buchaman, who was appointed as one of Museveni’s special advisors on issues affecting the ghetto community, revealed that he had once been assured of several forms of support to uplift his life and empower his fellow ghetto youth. However, he now claims that many of those promises have not been fulfilled, leaving him feeling abandoned and sidelined by the very system he has been serving.

Speaking with emotion, Buchaman said he had tried multiple times to reach out to the President through the appropriate channels, but his efforts have been frustrated by people around Museveni who seem to block his access. “I badly want to meet Museveni so that he can fulfill all the things he promised me, but I’m being denied the chance,” Buchaman lamented.
The artist explained that during the 2021 general elections, he used his influence to mobilize many ghetto youth in support of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM). At the time, he believed that Museveni’s promises would lead to major improvements in their lives, including youth empowerment projects, music support programs, and personal development opportunities.
However, years later, Buchaman says many of those pledges have remained just words. “When the elections were near, everyone from the ghetto was remembered,” he said. “We worked hard and delivered votes, but now that things have settled, it feels like the people who supported us have forgotten us.”
He expressed disappointment that some government officials are taking advantage of the President’s trust and are using their positions to prevent direct communication between Museveni and the people who truly need him. “There are people around the President who block access. They don’t want the truth to reach him. They make it seem like everything is okay when it’s not,” he said.
Despite his frustration, Buchaman maintains that he still respects President Museveni and believes he is a good leader. He insists his only desire is to speak with the President directly and remind him of the commitments he made to help improve the lives of the ghetto community. “I don’t hate Museveni,” Buchaman clarified. “He has a good heart, but I think he is not being told the truth about what is happening down here.”
The singer further noted that he has been struggling to maintain his role as a ghetto advisor without sufficient support. According to him, many of his colleagues who once looked up to him for help are now losing faith, accusing him of failing to deliver on promises that were beyond his control. “It’s embarrassing when people come to me asking for help, and I have nothing to give,” he admitted.

Buchaman also appealed to his fellow artists and youth to remain patient and avoid losing hope, saying he is still determined to meet the President and present their concerns personally. “I believe that if I get even ten minutes with Mzee, everything can change,” he said confidently. “I just need that one opportunity to talk to him face-to-face.”
As his cry continues to make rounds on social media, many Ugandans have expressed mixed reactions. Some sympathize with Buchaman, saying he has been used and forgotten by the same system he defended, while others argue that this should serve as a lesson to artists and influencers who mix politics with entertainment. Regardless of opinions, one thing remains clear — Buchaman’s plea for an audience with the President has once again sparked debate about the reality of promises made to loyal supporters during political seasons.
