National Unity Platform (NUP) presidential candidate, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, popularly known as Bobi Wine, has sharply criticized Uganda’s government for failing the country after nearly 40 years in power. He said that despite decades of rule, the nation still struggles with impassable roads and underdeveloped regions, leaving millions of citizens trapped in poverty.
Bobi Wine revealed that corruption has robbed Uganda of trillions of shillings that could have been used to improve the lives of ordinary people. He said schools remain incomplete, hospitals lack equipment, and job opportunities are limited because public funds are stolen instead of being invested in development.

He emphasized that roads across the country, especially in rural areas, remain in terrible condition. Many communities are cut off from trade and basic services, forcing people to spend hours navigating dangerous and broken roads that should have been fixed decades ago.
Education, Bobi Wine noted, has been severely affected by the mismanagement of resources. Children continue to study in overcrowded classrooms with no adequate learning materials, and teachers are left underpaid and unsupported, which diminishes the quality of education.
The healthcare system, he added, is also in crisis. Hospitals frequently run out of essential medicines, health centers are understaffed, and patients suffer as funds meant for medical services are lost to corruption. Many Ugandans die unnecessarily because the government has failed to prioritize their well-being.
Unemployment remains high, according to Bobi Wine, because the government has failed to invest in businesses and industries that could create jobs. Young people are particularly affected, finishing school only to find no opportunities, while trillions of shillings meant for job creation are misused.
He also criticized the uneven development across the country, pointing out that some regions enjoy better infrastructure and services while others are neglected. He argued that every Ugandan, regardless of where they live, deserves access to quality roads, healthcare, and education.

Bobi Wine called for transparency and accountability in government, insisting that citizens must demand leaders who manage resources wisely. He stressed that corruption has become a barrier to development and must be addressed if Uganda is to progress.
Despite the grim situation, Bobi Wine remains optimistic about the country’s future. He believes that with proper leadership, corruption can be fought, roads repaired, hospitals equipped, and schools improved to ensure all Ugandans have better opportunities.
He concluded with a message of hope, saying that after decades of mismanagement, it is time for a new approach. Ugandans are watching closely, yearning for leaders who will prioritize the people, invest in development, and finally end the cycle of corruption that has stalled the nation’s progress.
