His Highness, the Umukuuka of Bugisu, Jude Mike Mudoma, has unveiled an ambitious five-year development agenda designed to protect the cultural legacy of the Bamasaba while driving economic growth across the region. The announcement reflects a forward-thinking approach that seeks to harmonize tradition with modern progress.
At the launch, Umukuuka Mudoma emphasized that the plan is fully aligned with Uganda’s Constitution and the Traditional or Cultural Leaders Act. He described it as a comprehensive roadmap that will guide cultural preservation, social advancement, and economic transformation during his reign.
He highlighted that the strategy prioritizes both safeguarding Bugisu’s rich cultural heritage and promoting the well-being of its people. “Our focus is on preserving the values, norms, and customs of our ancestors while ensuring that health, prosperity, and opportunity reach every corner of our sub-region,” he said.
To steer the plan effectively, the Umukuuka has put together a team of advisors including Cabinet Ministers, Commissioners, and Special Envoys. He expressed deep appreciation to government bodies, private sector partners, civil society organizations, political leaders, clan elders, and community members for their valuable insights in shaping the strategy.
Prime Minister Rt. Hon. Dr. Mwambu Paul praised the initiative, noting that it will enhance service delivery and support programs aimed at poverty reduction, environmental stewardship, and social welfare. He urged both local and international stakeholders to collaborate with the Bamasaba in bringing the vision to life.
Deputy Prime Minister for Human Resources and Planning, Dr. Wambaka Kosea, added that the plan is based on a detailed analysis of the Bugisu sub-region. He stressed that its execution will promote unity among the Bamasaba, reduce poverty, and strengthen partnerships with other cultural institutions.
Finance Minister Hon. Andrew Masaba commended all contributors supporting the Umukuuka III’s initiatives, including families, schools, businesses, and government agencies. He noted that the plan identifies a wide network of development partners committed to helping achieve its ambitious goals.
The five-year strategy focuses on critical areas such as tourism and heritage preservation, agriculture and trade, environmental sustainability, human capital development, financial inclusion, investment promotion, science and technology, ecosystem restoration, institutional infrastructure, and community engagement. By integrating these priorities, the plan aims to position Bugisu as a beacon of cultural pride, economic opportunity, and sustainable development.
