Alwyn Garuga, son of the late businessman Dr. James Musinguzi Garuga, has strongly rejected claims by his mother, Peace Kesiime Bagorogoza, that government’s healthcare system was responsible for his father’s death, describing the accusations as unfair and calling for an apology and withdrawal of what he termed false statements.
According to Alwyn, the circumstances surrounding his father’s final months were not a result of government failure but decisions made by those closest to him. He alleges that Kesiime, who was his father’s next of kin, kept Dr. Garuga at his home in Mbuya for several months despite his worsening health condition and need for specialised medical care.
Alwyn claims that Dr. Garuga’s condition required advanced medical supervision because he was battling serious illnesses, including cancer and diabetes, which needed specialist intervention and close monitoring. He argues that keeping him at home denied him access to the level of care necessary to manage his condition.
He also questioned earlier claims that a politician blocked Dr. Garuga from travelling abroad for treatment, saying the late businessman’s visa challenges were caused by inaccurate information provided during the application process. He added that the situation later changed after government officials intervened and helped with a fresh visa application.
Alwyn further accused Kesiime of taking his father to CORSU Hospital after his condition had deteriorated, arguing that the facility did not have all the specialised resources required to manage complex conditions such as advanced cancer and diabetes. He said Dr. Garuga was later moved back home, where his health allegedly continued to decline.
He criticised claims that government hospitals failed his father, arguing that Dr. Garuga was never taken to a government facility where specialists could assess and manage his condition. Alwyn said a person with serious illnesses needed proper stabilisation before undergoing major procedures, including surgeries, to reduce medical risks.
The son also accused his mother and other family members of misrepresenting events surrounding Dr. Garuga’s planned medical evacuation abroad. He alleged that funds meant for travel arrangements were mismanaged and questioned why efforts to seek treatment abroad were not completed while his father was still alive.
Alwyn maintained that blaming government for Dr. Garuga’s death was misplaced, insisting that the focus should instead be on decisions made during the businessman’s illness. He described the alleged actions surrounding his father’s final days as unacceptable and called for accountability over what he believes contributed to the loss of his father.
