Uganda’s Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, Norbert Mao, has presented new regulations before Parliament aimed at boosting cooperation, transparency, and accountability among political parties. The Political Parties and Organisations (Inter-Party Organisation for Dialogue) Regulations, 2025, are designed to give the Inter-Party Organisation for Dialogue (IPOD) a clear legal framework and stronger operational foundation. He noted that the goal is to make sure every registered political party in Uganda has a voice in discussions that shape governance…

For years, the path to owning a home in Uganda felt like a slow climb, marked by painstaking savings and long delays. Traditionally, the approach was simple: save diligently, purchase a plot, and build a home brick by brick—a method affectionately known as “pay-as-you-go.” But the landscape is changing. Increasingly, Ugandans are embracing mortgages as a practical and empowering way to achieve the dream of homeownership. What was once seen as a complex or risky financial tool is now recognized as a bridge to realizing a lifelong aspiration. Uganda faces a massive housing shortage, estimated at 2.4 million units, according…
A senior health official has warned that Ugandans could soon face higher medical costs and possible drug shortages following a recent increase in taxes on imported medicines and pharmaceutical products. The National Drug Authority (NDA) is implementing a new policy requiring all drug importers to pay a 17 percent tax on consignments, up from the previous 12 percent, effective October 1, 2025. “Such high taxes will make essential medicines less affordable and accessible to ordinary Ugandans,” said Dr. Hussein Oria, secretary of the Uganda Pharmacy Promoters Association (UPPA). “This could result in immediate price hikes, strain insurance systems, and force…

Uganda’s Minister of State for Investment, Evelyn Anite, has urged investors from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to increase investment in the country’s water transport systems, mineral value-addition projects, and low-interest financing for local businesses. She emphasized that such collaborations would fast-track Uganda’s ambition to become a $500 billion economy while strengthening economic ties between Kampala and Abu Dhabi. Speaking at the 4th Uganda–UAE Business Forum in Kampala, Anite lauded the UAE’s growing investment in Uganda, now valued at $3.5 billion in foreign direct investment (FDI), and described the country as “a land of peace, prosperity, and profit.” “It is…

I have struggled for years to survive on my own. I…
