Centenary Bank is encouraging its customers in Mbale to embrace fingerprint technology as a safer alternative to traditional ATM PINs, aiming to strengthen security and reduce fraud risks. This message was delivered by Evans Nakhokho, the bank’s General Manager, who attended the Customer Week event on behalf of the Executive Director.
During his address, Nakhokho underscored the growing concerns surrounding PIN-based ATM transactions. He explained that anyone with access to a customer’s PIN—such as family members or friends—could easily withdraw funds, highlighting the need for more secure methods of account protection. Biometric verification, he argued, significantly lowers this risk by relying on unique thumbprints that are impossible to replicate.
Annette Nandelenga Wabweni, the Manager of Centenary Bank’s Mbale branch, shared that the annual Customer Week event serves as a platform for open dialogue between the bank and its clients. It allows customers to voice their concerns and offer suggestions for service improvements. This initiative, she said, is central to ensuring the bank stays connected with its customer base, especially those running businesses.
Customers, including Rachael Kakungulu, welcomed the bank’s biometric security move and urged others to prioritize digital safety to protect their finances in an increasingly tech-driven world.
