In February 2026, Entebbe International Airport experienced a strong increase in air traffic, showing continued growth in Uganda’s aviation sector. The airport handled a total of 189,575 international passengers during the month. This included 90,007 arrivals and 99,568 departures, with an average of about 6,770 passengers traveling each day. These figures highlight a busy period, with more people choosing to travel through Entebbe.
The increase is even more noticeable when compared to January 2026. In January, the airport recorded 150,188 passengers, meaning February saw an additional 39,387 travelers. This sharp rise suggests growing demand for air travel, possibly driven by tourism, trade, and business movement. The numbers are also higher than those of February 2025, when 159,503 passengers passed through the airport. This shows a year-on-year increase of 30,072 passengers, reflecting steady and consistent growth.
Cargo traffic also improved during the same period. In February 2026, the airport handled a total of 4,498 metric tonnes of cargo. This included 2,955 metric tonnes of exports and 1,543 metric tonnes of imports. These figures are higher than the 3,982 metric tonnes recorded in January 2026 and also above the levels seen in February 2025. The growth in exports, in particular, points to increasing trade activity and stronger economic connections.
Overall, the rise in both passenger and cargo traffic shows that Entebbe International Airport is becoming an even more important hub in the region. However, some challenges may affect future performance. Toward the end of February 2026, parts of Middle East airspace were closed, which disrupted some airline operations. Although flights are gradually resuming, this situation is expected to lower traffic numbers in March 2026.
Despite this challenge, the strong performance in February shows positive momentum. The airport continues to play a key role in connecting Uganda to the rest of the world, supporting both travel and trade.
