Following the death of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, Kenyan President William Ruto convened an emergency National Security Council meeting at 10:00 a.m., and later chaired a special Cabinet session at 2:30 p.m.
National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula adjourned the Wednesday morning session, stating that the House would reconvene at 2:30 p.m. for an important announcement to lawmakers.
Raila Odinga had been out of the public eye for over a month, with reports varying until his older brother, Siaya Senator Oburu Odinga, confirmed that he was recuperating in India.
Indian reports indicate that Odinga collapsed at an Ayurvedic facility and was rushed to a private hospital in Koothattukulam, where he was pronounced dead at around 9:53 a.m. Indian Time on Wednesday.
