Investigative journalist Dean Lubowa Saava has been taken into custody after vowing to reveal alleged secret dealings between the National Unity Platform (NUP) and President Yoweri Museveni.
The arrest follows a recent raid by Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) officials, who confiscated Saava’s television equipment and media assets, effectively halting his reporting. The move has raised serious concerns about press freedom and potential political interference.
Saava, known for his bold and controversial reporting, had publicly promised to expose hidden alliances and deals involving NUP and government officials. His detention has sparked debate nationwide, with many questioning whether it is linked to his investigative work or pressure from political authorities.
Supporters insist his reporting addresses critical issues the public deserves to know, underlining the role of journalists in holding leaders accountable. While NUP has not officially responded to the allegations, the arrest has intensified scrutiny on the party’s internal operations and political strategies.
Human rights groups and media organizations have condemned the detention, emphasizing that freedom of expression is essential for democracy. The raid and subsequent arrest are widely seen as attacks on independent journalism.
The incident underscores the growing tension between investigative journalists and political forces in Uganda, highlighting ongoing questions about transparency, accountability, and media freedom. As Saava remains in custody, many await updates on possible charges, while debates over press rights and political accountability continue.
