The Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) has announced that construction teams are still working along Sixth Street in the Industrial Area, forcing a temporary closure of the road.
The authority said the section has been completely blocked off to allow contractors to carry out important concrete works safely and effectively. The works are part of ongoing efforts to improve the road infrastructure within the busy industrial zone.
According to KCCA, the closure is necessary because concrete works require enough time and a controlled environment to be done properly. Allowing traffic to pass through the construction site could disrupt the process and create safety risks for both motorists and construction workers. As a result, the authority decided to close the stretch of Sixth Street until the works reach a safe stage.
Motorists and the general public are being urged to cooperate with traffic officers and follow the guidance provided on site. Traffic signs and personnel have been deployed around the area to help direct vehicles and ensure smooth movement despite the temporary disruption.
To help reduce congestion, KCCA has advised drivers to use Fifth Street and other connecting roads nearby as the main alternative routes. These roads will provide access to the different businesses and locations normally served by the closed section of Sixth Street.
While acknowledging that the closure may inconvenience road users and businesses operating in the area, KCCA has apologized to the public and asked for patience as the work continues. The authority emphasized that the improvements will ultimately lead to stronger, safer roads that will better serve the Industrial Area and the wider city once the project is completed.
