The Katikkiro of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga, has voiced serious concern over the escalating reports of security-related arrests in Butambala, warning that the situation is instilling a growing sense of fear among the local population.
In a powerful statement during the Eid al-Fitr prayers at Kabasanda Mosque, Mayiga emphasized the urgent need for dialogue and unity to prevent further tension within the community.
The ongoing arrests by security forces have sparked widespread anxiety among residents, leaving many fearing for their safety. Mayiga called on leaders to refrain from division and conflict, and instead embrace open conversations to address the underlying issues.
He referenced the Kabaka’s message, urging all to prioritize peace and harmony over disagreements and political misunderstandings.
Highlighting the risks posed by such actions, Mayiga stressed that political unrest should never be allowed to tear communities apart. He further underscored the importance of leadership that fosters unity, warning that “bad politics only destabilizes societies” and can lead to unnecessary suffering for the people.
At the mosque, district Khadi Sheikh Sowedi Lutwama also shared his thoughts, urging Muslims to extend care and compassion to everyone around them, particularly the vulnerable members of society. He reminded the congregation that Ramadan is a time to reflect on one’s actions and extend kindness to those we might not be closely connected to.
As tensions continue to rise, Hajji Sulaiman Magala, the Kabaka’s representative in Butambala, voiced his concerns about the fear gripping the local community. According to Magala, the reports of abductions and arrests have caused immense anxiety, with many residents living in constant uncertainty.
Mayiga further urged the Muslim community to carry the discipline and values observed during Ramadan beyond the holy month, advocating for actions that reflect respect and kindness towards others. He called for a continuation of Ramadan’s spirit in the days ahead, encouraging people to avoid harming fellow citizens through thoughtless actions.
In closing, Mayiga expressed his gratitude to the Muslim community of Kabasanda for their dedication to maintaining and developing mosque land. He urged them to continue working under the leadership of the Kabaka, staying united and organized as a force for positive change within the region.
Mayiga’s powerful message aims to restore calm and promote unity in Butambala, ensuring that no political or security-related unrest can disrupt the peace of the people during such a sacred time.
