A dramatic TikTok video has landed a 41-year-old Mukono man in serious legal trouble after authorities said he crossed the line between free expression and dangerous incitement. Wamala Hakim, a resident of Kalagi Village, Kyampisi Subcounty, appeared before the Nakifuma Chief Magistrate’s Court where he was remanded over statements police described as reckless and inflammatory.
The arrest followed a video Hakim allegedly posted on 9th November 2025, which quickly spread across TikTok and other social platforms. In the clip, he claimed that presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, popularly known as Bobi Wine, was in “serious danger.” But it was his next words that sparked national alarm—he urged Ugandans to arm themselves with pangas, spears, sticks, or “anything they could get.”

In the video, Hakim went further, calling on the public to defend Bobi Wine by force. This alarmed authorities who said the message could have pushed unsuspecting viewers into illegal acts. Police noted that even though the message was framed as a warning, its tone and content openly encouraged violence.
Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire confirmed that the words in the viral clip clearly broke the law. He explained that while political speech is allowed, calling on the public to pick up weapons is a direct threat to public peace and can easily lead to chaos.
“The suspect uttered statements intended to mobilize members of the public into violent actions,” Owoyesigyire stated. He added that Hakim’s claims about threats to Kyagulanyi’s life were false and had the potential to stir panic among supporters and create unnecessary tension across the country.
Hakim was charged with Incitement to Violence and Misuse of Social Media, two offences that carry serious penalties under Ugandan law. After the court session, he was remanded pending further mention of his case, and officials warned that similar conduct would not be tolerated.
Authorities say Hakim’s arrest is not an isolated incident. As the 2026 elections draw closer, TikTok has become a hotbed of political videos—some genuine, others exaggerated, and many intentionally misleading. Police report a rise in individuals posting dramatic warnings, emotional appeals, and calls for confrontation, often disguised as passionate political activism.

Investigations reveal that several of these viral videos come from people posing as NUP supporters. These individuals often spread unverified claims, alarming predictions, or threats of violence, hoping to gain attention and influence online audiences. This growing trend has forced the police to increase digital surveillance.
Owoyesigyire cautioned the public to think before sharing or reacting to any sensational political content online. He reminded Ugandans that misusing social media is a criminal offence and that spreading fear—whether intentionally or “for likes”—can have serious consequences.
As election temperatures continue to rise, Ugandans have been urged to remain calm, verify information, and avoid accounts pushing panic or violence. The arrest of Hakim serves as a sharp reminder: in the digital age, a few careless words online can lead to very real trouble offline.
