The Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB) has unveiled a new mobile application aimed at transforming access to business registration and other important services, giving Ugandans the opportunity to complete several processes conveniently using their smartphones.
The application, branded URSB Connect, was officially launched on Wednesday as part of the institution’s efforts to embrace digital technology and improve service delivery. The innovation is expected to reduce the difficulties people face when accessing URSB services while making the process of formalising businesses more convenient.
Through the new application, users can access different services, including business registration, protection of creative innovations and statutory registry services. This means entrepreneurs, business owners, companies and individuals can now access a range of services through a digital platform without relying entirely on traditional office-based processes.
URSB says the new development is intended to make doing business in Uganda smarter, faster and more accessible. The bureau believes that bringing its services closer to the public through mobile technology will improve efficiency and provide customers with a more convenient way of handling their registration needs.
The application is also expected to benefit Ugandans living outside major urban centres, particularly those who previously had to travel long distances to access certain services. With a smartphone and internet connection, users can access the platform from different locations, potentially saving time and transport expenses.
Beyond business registration, URSB Connect provides an opportunity for people in creative industries to access services related to protecting their intellectual property. Artists, writers, inventors and other innovators need proper protection for their work, and easier access to these services could help them safeguard their creations.
The bureau has urged the public to download the application from Google Play Store and Apple App Store. According to URSB, the platform focuses on making services faster, convenient, easy and secure, while supporting the country’s wider transition towards digital service delivery.
The launch comes at a time when technology is increasingly changing how government institutions serve citizens and businesses. URSB hopes the new application will encourage more Ugandans to formalise their enterprises, protect their innovations and access statutory services with fewer difficulties, placing essential business services directly in the hands of the public.
