Mukono South Member of Parliament Robert Maseruka has come out to dismiss rumours circulating on social media and in some political circles linking him to a romantic relationship with Kawempe South Councillor Shamim Nambassa.
The legislator denied claims that he is secretly dating the youthful politician, insisting that their relationship is based on friendship and mutual respect.
Maseruka said the allegations are false and should not be taken seriously, explaining that his connection with Nambassa has always been purely based on friendship.
Speaking during an interview with a local television station, the MP said he has known Nambassa for many years and their relationship started while they were still students at university.
He explained that they have remained close friends since their campus days, but their friendship should not be mistaken for a romantic relationship.
Maseruka rejected the rumours, saying that people often misunderstand friendships between public figures and quickly create stories without knowing the truth.

“I’m not the one chewing her,” Maseruka reportedly said while responding to the claims linking him to Nambassa.
He insisted that he has never considered dating Shamim Nambassa and that the two only share a long-standing friendship.
The Mukono South MP said being seen together with someone does not automatically mean there is a romantic relationship between them.
He added that public figures often face rumours because their movements and interactions attract attention from the public.
Maseruka noted that he respects Nambassa as a colleague and friend and has always valued their relationship.
The rumours involving the two leaders have recently gained attention, especially because both are young politicians who are active in public affairs.
Nambassa, who serves as a councillor in Kawempe South, has also built a public profile through her political activities and community engagements.
Maseruka said he believes some people spread such rumours because they want to create unnecessary controversy around public figures.
He urged people to focus on leaders’ work and contributions rather than spreading unverified stories about their personal lives.
The MP maintained that his friendship with Nambassa is not something he regrets because they have known each other for many years.

He explained that friendships formed during school years can continue for decades without having any romantic meaning.
Maseruka also emphasized that both he and Nambassa are focused on their political responsibilities and serving their respective communities.
The legislator’s comments come at a time when public figures continue to face increased scrutiny over their personal relationships.
He called for respect and responsible discussion, saying that rumours can unfairly affect people’s reputations.
As the debate around the allegations continues, Maseruka has maintained that there is no romantic relationship between him and Councillor Shamim Nambassa.
He insists that the two remain only good friends who have known each other since their university days.
