On Saturday, November 22, 2025, the Uganda High Commission in Dar-es-Salaam, in partnership with the Uganda Tourism Board (UTB), AfriReps Consult, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and other key tourism stakeholders, officially welcomed a high-level delegation from Mauritius. Arriving at Entebbe International Airport via Kenya Airways, the delegation’s arrival marks the beginning of a week-long familiarization mission aimed at boosting bilateral tourism relations, expanding market exposure, and fostering new partnerships between Uganda and Mauritius.
The delegation was warmly received, reflecting Uganda’s renowned hospitality, as they embarked on a journey to discover the country’s diverse landscapes, wildlife conservation initiatives, and rich cultural heritage. This visit is part of Uganda’s broader strategy to promote intra-Africa tourism, strengthen continental cooperation, and establish the country as a leading sustainable tourism destination globally.
Ms. Laura Kahuga, First Secretary at the Uganda High Commission, extended a heartfelt welcome to the delegation, encouraging them to experience Uganda’s exceptional tourism offerings. She emphasized the significance of the trip as a strategic initiative to deepen tourism diplomacy and increase the global visibility of Uganda’s unique natural and cultural assets. “This mission is a testament to our shared commitment to enhancing African tourism corridors, built on sustainability, knowledge exchange, and market diversification,” said Ms. Kahuga. “By hosting Mauritius’ top tourism representatives, Uganda is ready to forge new connections, share fresh narratives, and unlock mutually beneficial opportunities for both nations.”
The week-long program offers the delegation an immersive experience of Uganda’s most iconic tourist destinations. Their visit will include the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, where they will witness Uganda’s ongoing conservation efforts, Murchison Falls National Park, known for its breathtaking waterfalls, Kibale Forest, home to the world’s largest population of chimpanzees, and the Batwa cultural experience, which offers insights into Uganda’s indigenous heritage. The highlight of the trip will be the opportunity to participate in the renowned gorilla trekking experience in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, one of the best places on earth to see endangered mountain gorillas.
Throughout their visit, the delegates will engage with tourism authorities, conservation experts, cultural institutions, and leaders from Uganda’s private sector. These interactions aim to foster new avenues for collaboration, launch joint initiatives, and strengthen tourism connectivity between Uganda and Mauritius. The goal is to lay the groundwork for long-lasting partnerships that will benefit both countries in tourism, conservation, and economic diplomacy.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Uganda Tourism Board both expressed their commitment to the mission, highlighting that the visit is not just an opportunity to showcase Uganda’s tourism strengths, but also a celebration of the potential for mutually beneficial partnerships within Africa. “By nurturing relationships and investing in each other’s tourism industries, we strengthen Africa’s collective voice in the global travel market,” a statement from the Ministry read. “This collaboration with Mauritius underscores Uganda’s dedication to cross-border cooperation and the potential for a brighter future for both nations.”
With its stunning landscapes, abundant wildlife, and rich cultural heritage, Uganda continues to position itself as a top destination for sustainable tourism. Through initiatives like this familiarization mission, Uganda is building strong bridges across the African continent, one partnership at a time, and inviting the world to experience its natural wonders and cultural wealth.
