Uganda is taking important steps to strengthen its trade competitiveness in the region, and the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) is at the forefront of this effort. According to URA General Commissioner John R. Musinguzi, improving trade requires smarter systems, stronger collaboration, and integrated customs operations. These efforts aim to make cross-border trade faster, more efficient, and more transparent.
In a recent engagement, Commissioner Musinguzi met with Eric Sirali and the TradeMark Africa team to discuss ways of modernizing Uganda’s trade corridors. The discussion focused on improving cargo visibility, streamlining customs processes, and making it easier for businesses to move goods across borders. These measures are expected to reduce delays, lower costs, and enhance the overall efficiency of trade in the country.
URA is committed to using technology, strategic partnerships, and data-driven solutions to strengthen revenue collection while facilitating legitimate trade. By embracing modern systems and working closely with regional partners, the authority aims to create a seamless trade environment that benefits both businesses and the wider economy. Through these initiatives, Uganda is positioning itself as a competitive hub for trade in the East African region.
