The National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) has emerged as the Best Sector Exhibitor at the 32nd Uganda International Trade Fair, earning recognition for its innovative exhibition, customer-focused services and contribution to Uganda’s social and economic development.
The award comes as the annual Trade Fair, held under the theme “Formalising Trade to Secure Uganda’s Economic Future,” brings together institutions, businesses and other players showcasing products, services and innovations aimed at supporting Uganda’s economic transformation.
NWSC’s exhibition stood out for presenting water and sanitation services in a practical and engaging way, allowing visitors to understand how the Corporation is adapting its services to the demands of a rapidly growing population, particularly in urban areas where demand for reliable water and sanitation continues to increase.
At the centre of the exhibition is NWSC’s work in water quality management, sewerage services and inclusive water access initiatives. The Corporation is also showcasing its Urban Pro-Poor programme, through which people living in informal settlements can access clean and safe water at UGX 25 for a 20-litre jerrycan, making the service more affordable for vulnerable households.
The exhibition attracted the attention of the Minister of Trade, Industry and Cooperatives, Hon. Sanjay Tanna, who visited the NWSC stall during the official opening of the Trade Fair. He was received by NWSC Senior Manager Public Relations, Ms. Vivien Newumbe, who guided him through the Corporation’s exhibition.
Hon. Tanna commended NWSC for its contribution to national development and highlighted the Corporation’s continued recognition for its work, including by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni. He observed that Uganda has made progress in expanding access to essential services such as safe water, compared to previous years when many communities had limited access.
In his address to exhibitors, Hon. Tanna also highlighted Uganda’s ambition to achieve accelerated economic growth under the Fourth National Development Plan. He pointed to agro-processing, tourism, mining, and science, technology and innovation as key areas of growth, while emphasising value addition, peace, the rule of law and a stable financial sector.
The Best Sector Exhibitor award places NWSC’s work at the centre of a broader national conversation about the link between essential services and economic development. With reliable water and sanitation supporting households, businesses, industries and growing cities, the recognition underlines NWSC’s role in building the foundation for a healthier, more productive and economically secure Uganda.
